A Stabilized Mixed Finite Element Method for Single-Phase Compressible Flow
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present and study a stabilized mixed finite element method for single-phase compressible flow through porous media. This method is based on a pressure projection stabilization method for multiple-dimensional incompressible flow problems by using the lowest equal-order pair for velocity and pressure i.e., the P1 − P1 pair . An optimal error estimate in divergence norm for the velocity and suboptimal error estimates in the L2-norm for both velocity and pressure are obtained. Numerical results are given in support of the developed theory.

Combined Mixed Hybrid Finite Element and Finite Volume Method for Flow in Porous Media
This paper describes a numerical solution for two dimensional partial differential equations modeling (or arising from) a fluid flow and transport phenomena. The diffusion equation is discretized by the mixed hybrid finite element method. The saturation equation is solved by a finite volume method. We start with incompressible single-phase flow and move step-bystep to the black-oil model and co...
متن کاملStabilized Schemes for Mixed Finite Element Methods with Applications to Elasticity and Compressible Flow Problems
Stabilized iterative schemes for mixed nite element methods are proposed and analyzed in two abstract formulations. The rst one has applications to elliptic equations and incompressible uid ow problems, while the second has applications to linear elasticity and compressible Stokes problems. Convergence theorems are demonstrated in abstract formulations; applications to individual physical probl...
متن کاملStochastic collocation and mixed finite elements for flow in porous media
The aim of this paper is to quantify uncertainty of flow in porous media through stochastic modeling and computation of statistical moments. The governing equations are based on Darcy’s law with stochastic permeability. Starting from a specified covariance relationship, the log permeability is decomposed using a truncated Karhunen-Loève expansion. Mixed finite element approximations are used in...

We develop an Eulerian-Lagrangian iterative solution technique for accurate and efficient numerical simulation of single-phase compositional flow through three-dimensional compressible porous media in the presence of multiple injection and production wells. In the numerical simulator, an Eulerian-Lagrangian method is used to solve the convectiondiffusion transport equations and a mixed finite e...
متن کاملStabilized Finite Element Method with an Ale Strategy to Solve Moving Boundaries Problems
Fluid flow problems with moving boundaries are one of the challenge problems to be solved in this decade. Our target is oriented to develop a finite element code to simulate the fluid flow inside the cylinder of an internal combustion engine in order to understand how this flow field is related with the combustion, the heat release and the intake and exhaust charging process. In this paper we o...
